Shefter, Bert A., composer, pianist, radio, and recording artist, arranger; b. Russia, May 15, 1904. ASCAP 1940. Studied music on scholarship arts division of Carnegie Institute of Technology, later at Curtis Inst, and Damrosch Inst. Member of two-piano team of Gould and Shefter, became radio and theater attraction. Organized own band, performed over radio and made recordings. Concert pianist, active in performance and arrangement of jazz works. Film scores: Hollywood Brevities; Cross Roads; Hollywood Rhythm; One Too Many. Shelley, Harry Rowe, composer, organist; b. New Haven, Conn., June 8, 1858; d. New Haven, Conn., Sept. 12, 1947. ASCAP 1914 (charter member). Educ.: Yale Univ.; advanced musical studies with Buck, Stoeckel, Vogrith, and Dvorak, and three years in London and Paris. Began career as organist at Center Church, New Haven; organist Plymouth Church and Church of the Pilgrims, Brooklyn. For many years organist at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church, New York. Teacher Theory and Composition, Metropolitan Coll. of Music and American Inst, of Applied Music, New York, Charter Member of National Inst, of Arts and Letters. Works: Two Symphonies; Overture to Santa Clous; Violin Concerto; Souvenir de Baden-Baden; Phantasia for Orch. and Piano. Also many piano pieces, organ transcriptions and anthems.
